The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is seeking to employ two suitable and qualified candidates for the positions of:


Position: Non-Immigrant/Immigrant Visa Assistant

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The incumbent performs the complex task of processing the full range of non-immigrant and immigrant visas for Nigeria citizens and third-country nationals. S/he refers only unusual, complex or questionable cases to the team leader, LE Staff supervisor, or consular officer. This position is performed as a member of one of four rotating visa unit teams, who share duties over the course of the year.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: All applicants MUST address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion or the application will not be considered.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Art, Business Administration, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Foreign Language, History, International Relations, International Affairs, Literature, Liberal Arts, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science or Sociology is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in the application of regulatory material, while dealing with the public is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing in Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of immigration laws, regulations and procedures is required.
  • Ability to use MS Word and Outlook to draft and clear correspondence and memorandum is required.
  • Ability to draft documents with Level III keyboarding and data entry skills and maintain appropriate confidentiality is required.

Position: ACS Supervisory Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The incumbent is a senior LE Staff at a Bureau of Consular Affairs Top 10 Post. S/he is the unit supervisor responsible for providing substantive expertise, supervision, guidance, and training to a team of at least two LE Staff that process all categories of passport and citizenship cases. This position is regarded as an authority on complex citizenship and passport casework and incumbent oversees the Special Issuance Agency (SIA)  program of diplomatic and official passports for employees of the Mission. S/he serves as a point of contact with U.S. law enforcement officers, foreign government contacts, and NGOs on citizenship and passport related matters. Additionally, this position is responsible for monitoring the consistency and quality of the unit’s day-to-day work and ensuring that it complies with consular section quality standards for Mission Nigeria.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A University degree or equivalent in Accountancy, Banking, Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, Management, or Psychology is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience with the application of regulatory material while dealing with the public is required. Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience is also required.
  • Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing in English is required.
  • Level IV (fluent) Speaking in Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory material processing and application is required.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with immigration laws and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain external and high profile contacts, while being able to use MS Word and Outlook to draft and clear correspondence and legal memorandums is required.

SELECTION PROCESS
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
Salary
OR - Ordinarily Resident - N3,154,846 p.a. (Starting basic salary) Position Grade: FSN-06
In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.
Nor - Not Ordinary Resident AEFM - US$36,353 EFM/MOH - US$31,301 (Starting Salary) p.a. Position Grade: FP-08
